Victoria Beckham: I don’t need to prove myself
Victoria Beckham was never interested in ‘proving anyone wrong’ when she entered the fashion industry.
The 39-year-old star first shot to fame as a member of the Spice Girls. Having always shown an interest in clothes, Victoria decided to pursue her passion once her music career came to an end. She now runs a highly successful fashion empire and has won both awards and celebrity fans for her elegant designs. Victoria insists she wasn’t preoccupied with defying her doubters.
‘I never set out to prove anyone wrong,’ she told the latest edition of UK magazine Glamour. ‘I’m my own biggest critic and I set myself challenges to overcome and goals to achieve. But of course the fact that people like what I do is great!’
Victoria has a successful range of denim and sunglasses, as well as a collection of sleekly tailored dresses.
Her achievements have not gone unnoticed, and she has been named Woman of the Decade by the UK edition of Glamour.
Victoria also discussed her personal career highlight over the past decade. Being honoured at the British Fashion Awards is a moment she will never forget.
‘Winning Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards last year was amazing, not just for me, but for all of my team,’ she said. ‘We’re still a small studio; most people have been with me since the beginning and we’re all growing together. But, equally, seeing women wearing the clothes and feeling confident in them is always a highlight for me.’
When asked which females she finds inspiring, Victoria was quick to highlight hardworking ladies who juggle a family.
‘Is it a cliché to say that everyone woman who either looks after her family or works, or does both, is someone I respect and admire?’ Victoria smiled. ‘That’s really how I feel. I’m constantly inspired by women everywhere.’
