BARBIE’S DREAM HOUSE
A feminist group are up in arms at the opening of a Barbie Dreamhouse in Berlin, with a protest group called Occupy Barbie Dreamhouse saying that it is the wrong role model for young girls. Well, as someone who had some very beloved Barbies and considers herself to be a feminist and minus any eating disorders, my response is – lighten up.
The ‘dreamhouse‘ occupies 2,500 square foot on an industrial wasteland in the city, which means that even if you think Barbie is a useless airhead who’s only interested in shoes and Ken carrying her shopping bags, at least something is being done with the land. After parting with 15 euros, you can try on Barbie’s clothes, bake cup cakes in her kitchen and lounge around in her living room.
There are, of course lots of Barbies on display. For those of us in Europe it is the nearest life-size Barbie house (the other is in Florida) and kids have even have their own birthday parties in there. Take a look through the gallery for a peek inside the old girl’s house…
