Microsoft has launched a website that weighs Windows 8 tablets against its main rival – Apple’s iPad.
Windows 8 based tablets like the Asus VivoTab Smart, Dell XPS 10, HP Envy x2, and its own Surface RT are compared against 32GB and 64GB iPads.
Categories for comparison include battery life, weight, and display size – in fact Microsoft admits that the Surface RT tablet weighs somewhat more and has slightly lower battery life than the iPad. Putting itself back in an advantageous position, it also points out the iPad’s lack of ports, inability to work with most printers and ironically, the absence of Microsoft Office. Of course, there’s no mention that it’s up to Microsoft to offer Office apps on iOS.
Going in for the kill, the last point of comparison is the price, in which expectedly Windows 8 tablets always win.
This latest marketing endeavor brings to mind Microsoft’s Laptop Hunter ads from a few years ago that took on Apple’s MacBooks with comparisons that also focused on price points. The comparison site comes just months before Microsoft plans to release its Windows 8.1 update introducing new features.
